münchen minimal – the next chapter

münchen minimal – the successful series berlin minimal now finds its long-planned sequel. Andreas Bromba has been photographing the Bavarian state capital since September 2020. The goal remains the same: to see the familiar in a new way, to discover one’s own city, and to overcome contrasts through a minimalist visual language – and, of course, the joy of art.

The Berlin photo artist Andreas Bromba shot berlin minimal using the sensational PolaGraph 35mm film – in other words, analog. Unfortunately, Polaroid has discontinued this film, which was very popular among photographers. Andreas Bromba has therefore modernized his visual language and developed his own – now digital – template that closely resembles the original. In doing so, he deliberately avoided imitating the coarse-grained and sometimes unpredictable PolaGraph film.

The Berlin Senator for Culture at the time, Prof. Christoph Stölzl, wrote in the foreword to the berlin minimal exhibition book: “I am certain that these images can provide their viewers with the most beautiful pleasure that art holds for us: surprise, wonder, recognition, and a smile.”

In this spirit: Here’s to a new beginning!
